Debugging trick
One thing I've done is create a script in my ~/bin directory called debug. The contents are simply:
tail -f /path/to/aolserver-error.log |grep "--"
Then while I'm working on OpenACS, I use ns_log Notice "--myvar: $myvar" to see pseudo-breakpoints in the code.
