Forum .LRN Q&A: Need some clarification on .LRN system requirements

Hello Guys,

I am completely new to .LRN package and really eager to configure it on my machine. I spent entire last week in configuring the .LRN but I couldn't succeed. I referred to it's documentation for the installation steps but that wasn't helpful to me.

So, I need some help regarding its configuration. What I have understood till now is, for .LRN to be functional, I will need PostgreSQL, AOLServer and OpenACS to be configured first. I am having Red Hat Enterprise 4. My first question is, can .LRN be configured with Enterprise Edition 4. Because the documentation says Red Hat 8/9. Also, the installation documentation was slight confusing, FOR ME.

So, can anybody suggest me entire .LRN requirement and installation steps. I really need them.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Sean,

We are running production on Red Hat 4, so yeah, it works great.

Documentation can be found on the Wiki, https://openacs.org/xowiki/openacs-system-install there is loads of stuff knocking around there.

In general you need to install all of the required server components, that is aolserver, postgres, tcl, xotcl, etc. Put the openacs/dotLRN stuff in the right directories, setup a virgin database and then browse to the installation page and you should be able to install nicely from there.

Get the latest stable version of Openacs/.LRN from http://dotlrn.org/download/

Hope that helps
Matthew
