The RSA encryption algorithm was released into the public domain
today. Read about it on slashdot.
If I knew what I was doing I would have compiled OpenSSL into
Aolserver by now.
A very important note: SSL includes not just RSA, but also RC4, a stream cipher that is still a trade secret of RSA Security. Thus, OpenSSL is *still* not legal in the US.
Thanks for clarifying that. From reading on slashdot ( my mistake ) I got the impression that the routines in OpenSSL were legal in the US. Obviously this is not the case.
There is a good description in the OpenSSL FAQ on how to compile OpenSSL without the encumbered algorithms. I intend to test this within the next few days - and if it works well with Netscape Communicator and Microsloth Internet Exploder, I'll let you know.
