I took a first stab at editing the What is OpenACS page.

Most of the edits are based on Alfred Werner's text with additional inspriration from the Mission Statement thread.
Since that thread is long I thought I'd open a new one to get suggestions and comments on the What is OpenACS page.
The mission statement needs to be short. This page and perhaps some links off of it can give us more room to express the many good ideas from the Mission Statement thread.
