One additional note: why is it that whenever someone mentions a
negative aspect of another technology, people are worried about how
this suddenly constitutes "bashing." Is it not okay to emphatically
point out negative aspects of various technologies? Have we all become
so politically correct that no technology can be bad, it is only "not
adequate for the task at hand?"

Sometimes, an idea is just plain bad. I don't think anyone should be
afraid of saying so. Now, if you want more supporting evidence, that's
a different story. I'll happily add more. But don't be afraid of the
bashing. The worst thing is not to express a clear opinion, IMO.
