Forum .LRN Q&A: Course Management relationship application or software.

Hi everyone,

I'm been tasked to find out are there any opensource CMS software or application that allows our lecturers to view their respective course modules they are teaching relates to their colleagues modules. For example, let's say the Math-1 comprises of 3 sub modules called, Math-1-1, Math-1-2 and Math-1-3 and in turn Math-1 is part of Overall Math.

Are there any software or application in .LRN or others that allow this type of data relation and allow registered users to input and view them visually like in Visio (Flow chart type)?

Sincerely,
Joe Shim

Hi Joe,

Yes our Learning Objects Repository (LORS) allows you to create or upload via standards (IMS or SCORM) learning object in a hierarchical relationship. When the student accesses these objects they can browse a file/folder hierarchy.

There is a video demo here (looks for LORS-Central)
http://dotlrn.org/demos-dotlrn/

Take a look then feel free to come back with more questions.

Thanks

Hi Caroline,

Thanks for your reply. I have saw the demo, and i'm quite impressed with the features of LORS. I have also installed my own copy of .LRN into one of our servers to test out.

I have a couple of questions on the system, does it:

1. Allow for an graphical representation (like a flow chart, for example) of courses and course relationships over the period of an entire study programme (say 3 years)?
2. Allow complex relationship like Math 101 is directly related to Math 201, while Math 101 has a key learning relationship with Sciences 102 and Geography 203.

Sincerely,
Joe Shim.

Hi,

Please look at the dotTeach functionality.

Let us know if this meets your needs.

Hi Caroline,

Have tried to install the dotTeach software, but i can't seem to get dotLRN 2.0.3 to recognize the files to install into the apm manager. When i tried to extract the 'dotteach-1.5' tarball, my ark (i'm running fedora core 2) would give an error message. I also followed the instructions, but i can't seem to get it to work. Are there any early versions of the dotteach, that i can try out? or am i doing something wrong?

Sincerely,
Joe

Hi
The version of dotteach in the site is old and should not be used.
I am not sure when we would be able to release a version that will be usfull to others
cheers
