Forum OpenACS Development: Updated OpenACS/DotLRN installer for Windows

Galileo University presents a new OpenACS/DotLRN installer for Windows. The installer is for people who wish to try / test OpenACS and dotLRN systems in a fast way under the windows platform. (As well as tool for demonstrators in the e-lane project)

The source code will be available for any interested user, as well as further updated versions of the installer will continue, plus more improvements.

Any feedback or suggestion is greatly appreciated.

The Software installer has been developed / customized at the Galileo University (www.galileo.edu) by Byron Haroldo Linares Roman mailto:bhlr@galileo.edu as part of the E-LANE project (www.e-lane.org),

The installer ran but failed to complete after opening in Firefox on Windows XP. Only message in browser was "Building data model...", if I recall correctly. Did I miss something?

Could you send me more information of the problem since I had tested the installer in different computers with Windows XP and firefox without presenting problems, I would like to have more detail of the problem to fix it.

I tried the installer but it appeared to hang while adding plpgsql to the database. Also, it appears there may be problems if you already have a Cygwin installation in your path. (I ended up killing the install process, so maybe I was in a bad state.)

I've been putting together a new set of AOLserver win32 binaries based on CVS HEAD. HEAD has a new build system that requires new makefiles for all of the non-core modules, so progress has been slower than I'd like. I'm also still trying to decide how to deal with the NaviServer fork.

For me the installer worked just fine. I was able to install OpenACS (automatic) then log in to the service. From there I tried to install forums and got the following error:

  • It appears the apm_gunzip_cmd is not returning the correct path to gzunzip. I am guessing it should be included in the cygwin install.

apm_gunzip_cmd just returns the string "gunzip" so the C:\OpenACS\Cygwin\bin directory must be setup in the path when AOLserver is run.

I host this information is useful. Let me know if you need any additional information.

    Hi,

Help please. I installed things properly following
    http://www.friendlybits.com/en/inf_tec_en/win32openacs_en/

Then I had it until last piece. I then went to localhost:8000 and supplied needed info for admin such as username, password, email, etc. When I submitted the page, all I got was:

    OpenACS Installation
Installing the OpenACS kernel data model...

... and nothing else. Did I miss something out? If I try to refresh the page openacs doesn't recognize the info I supplied earlier, and asks me to go back and submit the page again. I do that and I get the same error.

If I go to http://localhost:8000/acs-admin, all I get is a blank page.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Arbie (mailto:phektus@gmail.com)

    Hi,

The install script went fine after a hardware restart. The file in question must have not been present or the path not yet resolved. I would suggest including a restart after the package installation so this can be avoided by other users. Also, I went on to change values in the config.tcl script under the openacs directory, though that's pretty obvious.

    Thanks,
    Arbie
