I was thinking: is there any way you can have a wiki page inside the community? The idea here is that you have a page that everybody can put their contributions, just like a wiki. Is there something like a dotlrn portlet for xowiki?

You can mount XOWiki in a subsite for a community.

I think people are using it in dotLRN but we haven't yet.
