I second Emma. We are working on cleaning it up to be MUCH more accessible and css skinnable, so now would be a bad time. The planned release of .LRN on OpenACS 5.3 (a.k.a. .LRN 2.3) is March, so for now your experience would likely be much more pleasurable with the previous version (unless you want to help with by submitting bugs and helping with the cleanup).

What's the recommended oacs cvs tag for a stable dotlrn build?

You can download the .LRN 2.2.1 tarball or if you prefer to check it out from the repository, use the dotlrn-2-2-1-final tag.
