An Oracle work-a-like CONNECT BY capability for PostgreSQL 7.3 over here; fairly obvious value.

I think our tree sortkey solution is probably more efficient, though I've not had time to do any testing.

The "CONNECT BY" patch was refused by the PostgreSQL team for a more flexible, standards-compliant solution. Tom Lane says the Red Hat DB team (which he's a member of) has committed to add the functionality to 7.4.
