Forum OpenACS Q&A: sendmail problem with 8.0

Collapse

Luckily I am almost done porting my 3.2.5 system from rh6.2 to 8.0... The only thing that doesn't seem to work is sendmail...

Whenever I want to send a mail via oacs I am being shown the error message:

Expected a 250 status line; got: 501 5.0.0 Invalid domain name

I already checked /etc/sysconifg/network (by the way is HOSTNAME supposed to be mysite.com oder just mysite?) and it looks okay...

NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME="MySite.com"
GATEWAY="MyIP"
GATEWAYDEV="eth0"
FORWARD_IPV4="yes"

Anything else I might have missed???

It's probably a from address which is broken. One common
mistake is to have the server name with the port in the
from address, which will bomb. You could take a look in the
MTA log and check that you don't have an address like
webmaster@localhost:8080 or @myhost.com:8080 in there.

Hello Jeff,

I received the following message in my maillog file:

Jan 14 16:30:07 arasis sendmail[1214]: h0EFU7ws001214: localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA

I have no real experience with sendmail... on 6.2 it worked without problems 😟

Strangely I didn't have sendmail-devel-8.12.5-7 and sendmail-cf-8.12.5-7 installed from the very beginning. I just had sendmail-8.12.5-7 installed.... Now everything is installed, but the following error occurs: "sendmail panic" sounds funny 😊

Anyone a bit more experience than I?

Here's one possible problem: There is a line in your sendmail.tcl with "Helo AOLserver [ns_info hostname]". You should change this to "Helo [ns_info hostname]". This is an AOLserver bug that has been reported but not yet fixed.

Hi,

I am having exactly the same error messages on a SunOS 5.8 box, with a site running openacs 4.5 and another openacs 4.6 (both PG)

The SMTP server is in another machine, where I do not have access and is quite secured so I am a bit blind on that front. The sys admin sent me the error message that looks exactly like yours.

where is the sendmail.tcl file, did that work?

Jamie
I fixed the file as you said and now it seems to be closer.
I now get a

... while talking to xxx.xxx.usyd.edu.au.:

>> MAIL From:<mailto:webmaster@xxx.usyd.edu.au>

<<< 550 5.0.0 Access denied
554 5.0.0 Service unavailable

I assume that it is because the admin of the may have not given me access.
