Forum .LRN Q&A: Translation: Terminology and Functionality Questions

What exactly happens when the user clicks on 'Close your account' on the 'Your account' page? Will the account be deactivated? Or will it be deleted? Will this happen directly or will an admin be asked to the job?
This is a dangerous link. This is a deactivation link (users can deactivate themselves with a single click). Admin can reactivate user (they are not deleted).

Smart of you to ask. I didn't. 😉

Supplementary question:
In dotLRN, a user/account can be deactivated, closed, banned, or deleted.
Is it true that the first two are used for exactly the same funktion in dotLRN? Is the difference to 'ban' that a student who is banned cannot reactivate the account by him-/herself?

Sorry, the second question (concerning 'ban') was wrong, a student can never do this. But then, is there any other difference?
With our instance of dotLRN, banned=deactivated, so those two terms are interchangeable and are an inconsistency in the terminolgy used.  You are correct about deleted - a user can reactivate an account in this state (imagine my surprise as i figured this out!), but a deactivated/banned account can only be reactivated by the site wide admin. I don't see closed on my system, unless i have just overlooked it, but i am not familiar with it nor have i used it.
closed account occurs in 3 messages on 8 source locations. How to guess the context?

From my point of view there should be:

banned: Only admin can take off the bann from the user
deactivated: User may be able to reactivate the account
deleted: Noboby may undelete the user

Does anyone agree with this?
Is there a possibility to set the userstates right?

That's exactly what I think.
