Forum .LRN Q&A: Translation server package selection

Joel has done a lot of work to improve the coordination of the volunteer translators on the official translation server http://translate.openacs.org/ , especially providing a column in the message string list that identifies the last author and date, and establishing per-locale mailing lists, and a lot of work has been done to make syncing easier.

The question remains, which packages should be installed on the official server and which ones should be counted in the upper right corner ("2569 DONE").

My suggestion is: after the useful maturity levels of dotLRN "compatible" and dotLRN "certified" are introduced in http://dotlrn.org/features/, all "compatible" features should be installed, and all "certified" ones should be counted. What do you think?

http://translate.openacs.org/ is more general to oacs, not only for .LRN, dont you think?
Although counting which packages have what languages completed is important.

I think we can solve the bottleneck translation server by a simple patch. Support of downloading messages from other translation servers but the official one at translate.openacs.org. That leaves the question though, who would run the other translation servers? One thing is for sure though, we desperately need more packages installed on a translation server as we are not able to translate most packages otherwise in a consistent manner.

Hi
In the next release of dotLRN I would like to be able to say that dotLN/openacs runs in 20 languages:
1) English 2) German, 3)Spanish (Spain) 4) Spanish (Guatemala) 5) Italian 6) Dutch 7) Norwegian (2) 8) Portuguese 9) Chinese 10) Catalan 11) Danish 12) Arabic (Lebannon) 13) Malasya 14) Korean 15) Swedish 16) Hindi 17) French 18) Portuguese (?) 18) Polish (?) 19) Russian (?) 20) English (AU)

We should be able to get those certified packages to all those languages (most are already there)

cheers

Rafael
